A Shattered Mind

A Shattered Mind

I witnessed the day that my poor mind did shatter
The slivers spread as they cut away from the form
I watched as the infinitesimal pieces did scatter
Tiny shards of memories tossed by the storm

Each one a different window
Each one a different view
Each one a different color
Each one a different hue

I crawled about but the fragments I could not gather
Held firmly in time the visions stayed
No reason they had but that they would rather
On this they would not be swayed

I cried out to them as my sanity slipped
But they would not hear my plea
If they were to only just reassemble
From this hell I would surely be freed

  1. Justin, you have captured this so well - the fragments scattering. I have know more than one person to whom this has happened, and recognize the very thin line that lies between our psyches and toppling over under the weight of painful experiences. The image is amazing, as well. I see a little person with you in your profile photo, and hope her sunshine brings you joy.

  2. Justin,

A superb insight to the turmoil and the pain, of a shattered mind. The long journey to find repair, from that period of darkness; seeking a return to what might be normality...

  4. Justin, I really appreciate this writing, Justin. You have shed a lot of incite on what can happen with a mind sometime. I can only imagine what a difficult time this was for you, but it sounds like the worst is behind you now. The second stanza says so much about what it was like, and the picture really adds. So glad to see you here at Poets United, and I hope you will continue to visit!
